Bringing Booze Into The Site 07 August 2009 19:46 (permalink)
Are you allowed to? I turn 18 at the festival so no doubt i'll get asked for ID, my birthday is on the Thursday and i go in early entry on Wednesday, will i be allowed to bring beers in or will they nick it from me cos i'm under 18 officially. I've seen so many people bring it in from Tesco etc in the past, surely they don't check everyone who looks like they could be underage?

Chances of you getting IDed at the gate are very very low.

chances of you getting Ided at Tesco are very very high.

Don't plan to buy from there, i was using it as an example that thats where people go to buy booze and bring it through

Same answer applies though really - chances of getting ID'd outside the fest are fairly high, chances of getting ID'd on your way into the site really aren't. Despite FR saying they will this year, it just isn't practical.

Last year just walked in with a crate, we were clearly underage but they just checked our wristbands.
I doub't they'll care, its just more hassle for them.

Same, but tbh we were just chatting along and carrying them normally.
Obviously if you are running around and acting like a spaz you draw more attention to yourself and thus more risk of confiscation

it was fine carrying it in last year. all the corner shops sold it to anyone, although for higher prices.

My 14 y/o sister helped us carry some in last year and we didn't get stopped, the people behind us shouting and being ****s however did, and got everything taken off them.

last year a group of us tried to take in 5 bottles of gin...
the gate staff didnt mind us taking it in, they just told us to get rid of the glass bottles, so we had to fill one of those big 5 litre bottles of water ful of it.
Then they let us go through :).

                          just to check...

you're allowed to bring your own alcohol into the campsite from outside, but not into the arena?

                            Yes, provided it's not glass.

Underage drinking is "fine" according to Festival Republic. The fact that everyone will probably get away with it shouldn't be taken as an indication of the festival organisers "turning a blind eye" to what is seen as a social problem and a sign of moral decay.

Also remember there will be Police on site, if they catch kiddie-winkles drinking they will probably have something to say about it.

I really wouldnt worry... in reading 06 i was 17, went to a bar in the arena and the woman asked me for ID, i said "dont be silly!" to which she replied "yeah ok sorry, what can i get you"
its a festival, no one cares about underage drinking... it happens.

                                    Hi.

This will be my first Reading festival. I'm bringing my brother over from Norway for the weekend. I'm 24, and he is 17.

If i buy him beer in the arena, what would the consequenses be if he/we get caught? Would they just pour it out, or could we get into more trouble? (Like get thrown out, or me getting ****ed for buying beer for a minor).

I'm guessing the chances for getting caught are pretty small?

It's the same punishment as it would be anywhere else. Probably wouldn't get caught though.

It's the same punishment as it would be anywhere else. Probably wouldn't get caught though.

I don't know what the punishment would be in general either, so if you could fill me in, that would be appreciated :)
